When the VP buffers are reduced, and the total pool resource is increased by using HP buffers, the paging rate can be kept quite low and application performance improved.

However, over allocating HP buffers (HiperSpace resources) eventually will hurt the overall MVS environment if adequate Expanded Storage isn’t available. Expanded Storage is also a system resource, and many other address spaces need substantial amounts of this memory; even if it is only used for normal paging.
